“Diesel Fueled Defiance” is inspired by women on the forefront of car racing during the civil rights movements of the 60s, when an increasingly virulent sentiment toward women was under way. These women would do whatever it took for the taste of adventure that racing cars brought to their lives.
The Thao Smock, inspired by activist and former special guerrilla unit nurse Chous Thao. In 1943 she became the only Hmong girl to attend school in Baan Phoukabaht and by the age of 22, she was the head administrator of Sam Thong Hospital in Laos (which was run by the CIA during the Secret War in Laos post Vietnam War). This pleated pinafore can be worn on its own, or with a shirt underneath. This rendition has been made in a dead stock cotton wool, woven in Japan.
